Hand Building with Clay
with Don Baker
Mondays 6:30–8:30pm
The purpose of this class is to provide students with an opportunity to create pottery through the technique of hand building. Students will learn about clay consistency and wedging, how to build with slabs, and some glazing and firing particulars. Simple tools and easily-learned techniques will give each person the skills to create pieces that reflect their creativity. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at pottery, this would be a good place to start.
Don Baker enjoys every aspect of the pottery experience, and welcomes opportunities to assist others in expressing their creativity through this medium. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated with an art major, studying ceramics under Gene Buckley. He has since attended other ceramic classes, done work on his own wheel, and has helped with ceramics at Concordia Academy. A recent hand-built article was featured at Gustavus during their alumni art exhibit last fall.
